Nearly all OE and many aftermarket ECUs are designed to drive only high impedance injectors. All low impedance, higher flow rate injectors require a peak and hold injector driver. This makes it easier for the injector to operate, especially with high fuel pressures. Peak and hold drivers allow for a higher opening current (peak) and then drop and maintain a lower current (hold) after the injector is open. These drivers cost more and are typically only used in aftermarket ECUs.

Low impedance injectors require a peak-and-hold injector driver.

When building a normally aspirated performance engine, like this 5.7L LS swapped into a 1967 Chevelle, there are some simple steps you can take to properly size the injector to the specific application.
